ANNUAL REPORT SOL COLLABORATIVE
Fountain of Hope – Malawi Dzeleki camp
Mill – Average income of $2500 per month
Pig Project
In 2020, we raised funds to build a sanitary pig facility and purchase 10 sows and 1 Boar.
In 2021, these pigs produced 98 offspring, more than half of these are placed with families within the camp once they pass a pig raising training program. The other half are sold. The proceeds are used to support secondary school scholarship recipients.
As an offshoot of these projects, Fountain of Hope was able to start a chicken layers project and manure sales, which are both helping to increase agricultural production.
Quote from Wineza Munezero, a Single Mother refugee from Rwanda: “I was born in Dzaleka refugee camp in 1994, my dad was killed in the Rwandan genocide and left my mom pregnant. My mom passed away in 2000 due to trauma. I got pregnant at the age of 14. Two years ago I got a small loan from Fountain of Hope that is helping me and my child survive, after repaying they have given me a pig that is going to boost my business in the coming months. I like pigs because they reproduce faster.”
Water Project
Using the wells dug for the pig project and solar pumps, water was brought from the well dug for the pigs into camp to establish three new water distribution points, alleviating the long lines at the few distribution points previously available.
School – Donations from Westbrook Elementary allowed the school to add a 7th grade, and they are now educating an additional 40 students. The school was also able to purchase textbooks and other curriculum for the whole school.
Quote from Smith FOH School Supervisor: “It is a pride to have textbooks and desks for our new class, I believe to see the improvement of our student’s performance this year.”

Economic Stimulus Congo
Pharmacy
In 2020, after experiencing hardship due to COVID-19, a pharmacy in the Sud Kivu region of DRCongo needed an infusion of cash in order to survive. We were able to send $1,500 to this pharmacy, allowing it to purchase much needed inventory and to continue to pay the two employees’ salaries. One employee has been getting her pharmacist degree, and she was able to continue in her studies, thanks to the infusion of cash.
Quote From David Asifiwe, Pharmacy owner: “Madam Solangehas been able to complete all courses of her training in the management of pharmaceutical products. She has now started the professional training before she gets her certificate. I advised her to do this training out of our Pharmacy (in a big pharmaceutical store) in order to get more experience which will help us when we will open ours.”
Food Distribution Wholesale Market
In 2020, after evaluating the needs of the community where the pharmacy is located, it was apparent that there was a need for better access to food goods. We were able to send a loan to the owner of the Pharmacy to start a food distribution company, which buys produce and non-perishables and sells them to local women on credit. The women then sell the goods and keep 25% of the profits from the sales.
In 2021, this program has been very successful and has helped to lift more than 15 families out of poverty, allowing them to keep their children in school.
Nahomie Rose – Food Distribution Saleswoman “I was able to complete the school fees for my son who was in difficulty of ending the first cycle.”
Both the Pharmacy and Food Distribution companies were renting space. In 2021, we were able to help the owner of the Pharmacy and Food Distribution companies purchase a property both companies can run out of.
Vocational Training School
Burundi
Along with a partnership with doTerra’s Healing Hands Foundation, we were able to fund a vocational training program with Mommas of Burundi, where they are now training at-risk women in computer skills and tailoring.
Quote from: Madam Laeticia Muhungaseko, a woman living with a disability and a beneficiary of the vocational school: “To participate to this program we are not looking for success but rather to try to restore our value, because a woman without occupation or employment in our community is always considered as the merchandise that is ready to sell.”
